I just noticed that wave of flickering is periodically runs thru my factory.
With some luck I can catch this wave when I press escape and then some machines might be missing.
Here top middle is missing:

I restarted the game and the flickering gone, but this time wires were totally missing. All the time.
But their shadows were in place.
I restarted once again, and this time everything seems to be fine...

My guess is - sometimes the game fails to load an image. When this image is a frame of an animation, then flickering happens.
And since wires aren't animated, they were missing completely.

Now I tried. At first everything seemed fine.
But then big biters appeared and they were flickering.
Unstable nature of this problem makes it quite hard to diagnose.
Once I had first frame of assembly machine missing, so when I tried to place it there was nothing at cursor.
But if something is missing, it is missing till restart.

Intel?

Are the flickering machines in the same "phase" when they briefly disappear?
If so, some animation frames might be missing?

But that should be rectified in 0.10.4 where a code detecting such corruptions was deployed.
(see my longstanding bug https://forums.factorio.com/forum/vie ... 91&p=39478 )

If 10.4 still causes issue, try experimenting with the "max-texture-size" mentioned on a post on the linked page?
Maybe.
