With anticipation of the new expansion I wanted us to remember part of the game that worked well for me.

The Music, I have read different opinions but I think it worked well.

Do you think they will change that too?
Current soundtrack will stay as 'Nauvis' soundtrack

Anybody else get the impression the DLC is very lite on actual new items-Machines etc. If I recall high quality items. Lava ore. Cobalt. A new belt tier. Space platform. Raised Tracks. Less then 10 new machines-space platform. Foundry. Heavy Miner. I saw a rocket turret yesterday. 4 Planets. And ALOT of quality of life and now a sound track. Did I understand correctly the DLC would match the base game? Regards hype I am worried.

I am sure all your fears will come to pass, this is a one up game. It will be in my favorite game vault forever, there is no other game that I spend time on other than this one. Am I going to be disappointed, probable yes .

Nope, because I know the devs are trying to leave some things to be discovered/a surprise.

Been burned to many times by Devs. Believing is seeing. Sorry to the guys who will hate what I am saying because they maybe see Wube/ factorio as cant do wrong.

I know there are people who have done more hours. Spent about 1410ish hours my side. Feel I have earned my right to be concerned. Bought the game. Dont feel I am entitled. Would gladly spend 3 or 4 times more for the DLC if it was plush. Would even pay new game price for said DLC. No issue paying for quality and quality.

But I got the feeling I will buy the DLC not out of OMG I cant live without this to I will buy it because it adds "some" new items to my toy chest."

Proof is in the pudding is in its eating. Bohemia Interactive's approach to ArmA 3 has been once the core DLCs by Bohemia got released. They got Modders to make DLCs. And kept the hype going. I dont believe Wube cant do that as Studio as they have a great game still highly popular-Factorio. Money is coming in. My point is if they behind. Outsource to external Devs.

I hope I am wrong.

Look, the DLC releases in 4 months or the likes.

You can surely wait until after the release. By then more Dev diaries will be out, and after the release there will be tons of reviews and information (like on the wiki) around from the DLC as well and then you can make up a more solid opinion whether it will be worth to buy for you or not. ^^

Then wait until it's out and judge for yourself then. Posting about it now does no good. I mean, most devs don't even release half as much information about their dlcs/expansions as Wube has already until release day....

It says you have 2527 posts. I think your opinion maybe a little biased.

Well, I have been posting here for the past... 7 years? And have been voicetress at times, some times even against changes the devs made. You're biased, too ("Been burned to many times by Devs"). If these devs had a history of not delivering in their past 12+ years of developing this game, I might be able to understand, but they don't. And honestly, this is all about something that is still under active development and is getting a combination of reveals and teases that most devs don't even do.

Don't count things. Count opportunities these things provide.
Quaity alone is a gamechanger as it allows proper "tall" builds.
Space platforms may or may not allow pulling very interesting logistical pranks like same-planet delivery.
That's opportunities I as novice see - and these two things alone alone promises me another hundred of hours of playtime at the very least...

2.0 Release Date

Post by hc289 »

After a year off I'm about to come back and play some more Factorio, but I see 2.0 is due any day based on the blog, is there a firm release date set yet?

I'm expecting release is at least a month away, (probably more like 3-4, maybe longer), so plenty of time to finish a game or 2, unless you expect to be playing the same game for months on end.

I was going to write this in latest FFF-414 but maybe that is not the correct place
--
it is so sad to see many unfunny features are taken into game under name of challenges. when you think about realistic problems from real life as challenges, one must also consider the solutions for them too. if you simply take the problems but not solutions and leave it to players to figure out another solution, then it becomes annoyance, not fun, not challenge. it also takes freedom from such a freedom oriented game. this is not specific to spoiling though, this is an accumulated response after reading FFFs for months. there are many hidden but disturbing features that is presented in each and every FFF actually. they just take away my fun from the game and "force" me to do other things.

it almost feels like the devs changed their minds 180 degrees compared to years before. more I read FFFs (not the 414 one only) more disturbing details I found about how the play style shall be. not that this is a problem for everyone, some enjoy such challenges obvious, but I do not.

it is very clear that "expansion is not for everyone", absolutely not for me. this expansion might not be your dream expansion you would expect so take it as is. if you enjoy every feature brought, then feel lucky and enjoy it.

I hope in future FFFs to change my mind I will hear more entertaining and sophisticated challenges, not just artificially created ones. unfortunately I lost my hope already, so as answer, I have "0" hype left in me about the future of expansion now.

A lot of it is probably a reaction to bots taking away most of the challenge. The only real way to create a challenge at that point is to nerf bots in some way...and then the challenge is just belt routing.

So these new challenges, such as rockets and spoilage and recycling and quality, provide new types of gameplay other than "nerf bots and use belts".

I think it's all a funny (or not-so-funny) side-effect of "devs playing their own game". Usually, for multiplayer games balance gets problematic, because the devs don't play them, or dont play them in a sufficient fashion. Like, WoT, or something of that sort. When you have people with miniscule amounts of experience in-game trying to balance stuff, it can only end up being bad.

Here I think, that the devs simply play the game, and I mean that in a good way. The core team certainly does. So what happens to one, if you are playing the same game for 10 years, and not only play it, but know every mechanism responsible for the games behaviour? You get bored. You try out mods, especially overhaul mods. You build mods. You try radical stuff.

So what happened to 2.0, that it has a load of usability fixes, which are going to be welcomed by everyone, since they are born from people regularly playing the game.
Content-wise though, the 2.0 won't be "more of old factorio", but rather "the devs take on overhaul mods".

I also have this feeling by now, that it probably won't be for me. I never enjoyed spaghetti puzzles, I never enjoyed the cliffs, I was never interested in any form of speedrunning, or being under timepressure.
I actively disliked artificial space limitations, having to research landfill or not being able to pump a lake always were a sore in my gameplay-value-book.

So I as you do, fear that the content shown in the expansion won't scratch my itch for "more factorio".
At the same time, I think that having it go in a direction that does not scratch my itch, while getting fixes, usability, and publicity is infinitely better over the game being "done and finished".
